The presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, that proclaimed independence in
2008, Tomislav Nikolic and Atifete Yahyaga, will meet in October in one
of the European Union countries under the mediation of the head of
European diplomacy, Catherine Ashton, RIA Novosti reported with
reference to Pristina newspaper "Express".
Since then, after the Albanian authorities in Kosovo unilaterally
declared independence, there have been no the summit talks between
Belgrade and Pristina.
According to the newspaper, one of the main topics of the meeting
should be the situation in northern Kosovo.
The north of Kosovo is inhabited mainly by Serbs who do not recognize the
independence of Kosovo and other Albanian leaders' decisions in
Pristina. There are local authorities, supported financially and
politically from Belgrade. Pristina calls these bodies parallel
structures and seeks to establish control over northern Kosovo.
