Police officer, militant killed in North Caucasus raid

A police officer was killed and another one was injured during an anti-militant raid in the capital of Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, an Interior Ministry spokesman said, RIA Novosti reports.

Police carried out the raid against a member of a local militant group in Makhachkala late on Saturday.

The militant opened fire on police as he was blocked inside a building at around 11:30 pm local time (19:30 GMT), the spokesman said.

The militant was killed, he said.
