Having become a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan has enhanced its position at the international level, Novosti-Azerbaijan cites the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, Elman Abdullayev, who commented on the membership of Azerbaijan in the Non-Aligned Movement.

According to him, the organization is an important platform for Azerbaijan in terms of telling the truth about the country to the international community.

"This organization, after the United Nations, is the largest and the second by the number of its members; it brings together more than 120 countries around the world," Abdullayev said.

He noted that membership in the Non-Aligned Movement has played a large role in the accession of Azerbaijan to the UN Security Council.

"The members of the Non-Aligned Movement supported and voted for Azerbaijan (when the country entered the UN Security Council)," the representative of the Foreign Ministry said.

He noted that the resulting document of the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, held in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh on May 7, 2012, included the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"In this document, the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement supported Azerbaijan's position and noted that the conflict could be resolved peacefully within the framework of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan on the basis of international law," Abdullayev said.

The representative of the Foreign Ministry added that therefore the development and expansion of relations with the Non-Aligned Movement and the countries of the Organization was a priority for Baku, and "there is a lot of potential for this".

"This once again proves that Azerbaijan has chosen a right path and strategy," Abdullayev said.
