Russian president informed about development of border post in North Caucasus

Vladimir Pronichev, Director of the Border Service of Russia’s FSB, informed President Vladimir Putin about development of border posts and service, ITAR-TASS reports.

The federal purpose program for prevention of threats in Central Asia was realized with an efficiency of 99.5% in 2003-2011. Current efforts stress on prevention of trans-border crime and protection of biological resources, Pronichev said.

Efforts in the North Caucasus focus on protecting the border of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The FSB officer said that a multi-level system of border control will be completed in September 2012.

About 2.5 million people were passing crossing posts in the Soviet times every year. 139 passed it in 2011.

Pronichev said that border guards are getting new ships. About 25 will be received. They have water disposal of 40 tons and 125 tons with a speed of 50 knots.
