US president approves new sanctions against Iran

USPresident Barack Obama has approved a new package of sanctions
against Iran, the BBC reports.

The sanctions involve the international isolation of Iran and limits
on fuel imports. The White House says that the sanctions are aimed at
hindering the development of the Iranian nuclear program and the
creation of ballistic missiles.

Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful.

The UN Security Council approved the new international sanctions
against Iran. 12 members of the SC voted. Lebanon abstained, Turkey
and Brazil voted against.
