The Senate (upper house of the Uzbek parliament) has ratified the Uzbek-American intergovernmental agreement on air transit of U.S goods and personnel across Uzbek territory as part of the efforts to ensure Afghanistan's security and restoration, Trend reports.

The agreement was signed in Tashkent on March 28, 2012. The law on ratification of the agreement was passed by the legislative (lower) house of the Uzbek parliament in June.

The agreement is a bilateral international intergovernmental treaty. It was concluded in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution calling on Afghanistan's neighbouring countries to assist the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

According to the agreement, the transit is implemented via Uzbek special air corridors for this purpose without making intermediate stops on Uzbek territory, unless there is an emergency situation on board and, or, force majeure preventing the transit.
