Jean-Arnold Vinois, Acting Director of the Internal Energy Market, is on a visit to Ashkhabad, Trend reports.

He expressed interest in expanding energy cooperation with Turkmenistan, diversification of routes for exports of energy carriers to world markets and construction of pipeline infrastructure.

Turkmenistan and the EU signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in energy in May 2008. Ashkhabad is negotiating construction of the Trans-Caspian Pipeline with the EU and Azerbaijan to transport gas to Europe. It may become part of the Nabucco project Brussels expects to use for diversification of gas supplies. Russia is a major supplier of gas for Europe.
