Iranian car imports up 29 percent

Iranian car imports into Iran rose by 29 percent during the first five months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 20, compared with the same period last year, the Customs Administration head Abbas Memarnejad stated, Trend informs.

He did not comment further on the number of imported cars, the Mehr news agency reported.

Iran plans to produce 3 million cars by 2025 and export some one million sets, Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari has said.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony to unveil the second all-Iranian car, named Runna, in Tehran on June 16.

"Some 1.6 million cars were manufactured in the past calendar year and 55,000 cars were exported," Ghazanfari said.
