Terek Cossacks elect a new Ataman

The Terek Cossack Army Society in Novopavlovskaya held an election round

for their new ataman . The event was attended by representatives of

the Council for the Cossacks under the Russian President, federal and

regional authorities and the clergy. Stavropol authorities were

represented by the Vice-Governor and head of the regional government, Yury

Tyrtyshov, YuGA.ru. reports

Tyrtyshov said that at this point in Stavropol Territory, Cossacks compose a

real, active force that seeks to serve the country and people in a

wide range of areas - from strengthening the state to the foundations

of economic development, from security protection to the education of

youth.
