Turkey to focus on nuclear energy development

Turkish Minister for Energy Taner Yildiz said that nuclear energy development was the new priority of Turkey. Construction of the second nuclear power plant will be initiated this year, Trend reports.
Turkey is building the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant and negotiating construction of the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant with Japan, Canada, China and South Korea.
The power plants will start producing electricity in 2019. Another nuclear power plant will be built in 2023.
The Akkuyu Nuclear Power plant is being constructed basing on the Russian project. It will have four WWER-1200 reactors. The deal to construct it was signed in May 2012. Each block will have an output of 1200 MW (4800MW in total). Each block will be launched at an interval of a year.
