Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei ordered launch of a new Tareq 901 submarine at the Bandar-Abbas Port, Trend reports.
Tareq 091 is a Kilo-class analogue of Russia’s 877EKM submarine purchased by Iran in 1992-1997.
Kilo refers to 877 Paltus and 636 Varshavyanka, according to NATO standards.
Iran has Tareq 901, Noor 902, Yunes 903 submarines, one Nahang (500 tons) and four small submarines (120 tons).
Iran has also launched the Sahand frigate, an analogue of British Vosper Mark (Alvand).
