Georgian ombudsman may become Georgian minister for corrections and legal assistance
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaGeorgian President Mikheil Saakashvili proposed Ombudsman Georgy Tugushi to become the Minister for Corrections and Legal Assistance, Georgia Online reports.
Saakashvili noted that Tugushi is the main critic of the system and hopes that the ombudsman would reform the penal system. He added that there will be no tolerance of crime or violation of human rights.
Tugushi emphasized that there will be big changes, based on what he had written in his recommendations. He will have 3 years to realize the plans.
Minister for Corrections and Legal Assistance Khatuna Kalmakhelidze resigned after the recent scandal over videos of tortures in Georgian prisons.
