Iran produces 15 GW of electricity using wind power

Iranian wind power plants generate 15 GW of electricity, Director of the Iranian Organization of Renewable Energy Yusef Armodeli said, Trend reports.

The country has the wind potential for up to 40 GW of electricity, he went on to say. Renewable energy sources may fulfill demands for 20% of electricity.

The Energy Ministry will increase electricity production by 5 GW this year (starting on March 5), Deputy Minister for Energy Mohammed Behzad said.

The five-year economic plan (until 2015) will increase electricity production by 25 GW to 73 GW.
