A meeting of the urban development and land commission on September 20 in Moscow decided to abandon the construction of an Islamic humanitarian center with a mosque in the suburb of Mitino, the press office of the Mayor and the Moscow government has announced.

A statement released by the press service on Thursday says that the construction of an Islamic humanitarian center with a mosque was previously decided on the preliminary approval of the placement of the facility on 57 Baryshikha Street in Mitino.

The decision to cancel the construction was made after objections from Mitino residents, Interfax reports.

The press service stressed that it had instructed a review to be carried out of other options for locating the mosque, taking the opinions of the local population into account.
