Russia could switch to year-round winter time this autumn
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe head of the faction "United Russia" in the State Duma, Andrei Vorobyov, has not exclude the adoption of the bill on a return to standard time.
Today the chairman of the Duma Committee on Health, Sergei Kalashnikov, introduced a bill to move to winter time. Daylight saving time will be cancelled, with 54 regions on astronomical time. An MP from the Liberal Democratic Party believes that the document can be quickly adopted by deputies and Russia will turn the clocks back one hour this autumn.
Representatives of other factions - the Communist Party and the "A Just Russia" party - have expressed support for this initiative.
"A discussion is being carried out. If there is such a request society views it positively, then there is a basis for discussion and possible adoption of the bill," Vorobyov was quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, a return to standard time has been discussed for a long time.
"The theme is actively discussed, especially in the big cities in the European part of Russia," Vorobyov noted.
Last summer, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed the law "On the calculation of time," which abolished the transition to daylight saving time. Following that, the Russian Federation has a system of calculating time that is ahead of astronomical time by two hours. This decision caused great dissatisfaction in some quarters, with people talking about fatigue and chronic lack of sleep.
