Azerbaijani MP voluntarily renounces her mandate
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaToday a deputy of the Azerbaijani parliament, Gular Akhmedova,
requested that her mandate as a parliamentary deputy be revoked. She said that she took this
decision after video footage, showing the former rector of the
Azerbaijani International University, Elshad Abdullayev, giving her a
large sum of money to be elected as a deputy was released.
The Baku City Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case in connection with the incident.
Akhmedova said that she will do anything to cooperate with the
investigation. She said that she had renounced her mandate because in
the capacity of deputy she might be suspected of compromising the
investigation.
