30% of Armenians will be over 60 in 2050

Every third Armenian in 2050 will be over 60, Novosti Armenia reports the representative of the UN Population Fund in Armenia, Garik Ayrapetyan, as saying today.
He said that, taking into account the current number of young
people in Armenia, by 2050 the percentage of old people will double from
15.1% to 30.2%.
Presenting the research of the Fund he said that in 2050 30.2% of
Armenian population will be older than 60 and 6.6% will be over 80.
He noted that this indicates the "ageing" of the Armenian nation, but
it is not critical, as it is currently better than in Georgia or Russia.
Deputy Minister of Labour Djema Bagdasaryan said that the ageing is
connected to a decline in births, a growth of life expectancy and
the migration of the working population to other countries, which
changes the demographic picture.
