US monitors Syrian chemical weapons

A group of US specialists in Jordan will monitor Syrian warehouses of chemical weapons, Pentagon Chief Leon Panetta said at a ministerial meeting of NATO members in Brussels, ITAR-TASS reports.

No information about rebels’ obtaining chemical weapons had been found, Panetta said.

The US group of observers consists of over 150 engineers and other specialists to help local armed formations accommodate Syrian refugees.

An anonymous spokesman of the US administration said that the specialists were not involved in any operations and had arrived in Jordan in early summer. They based at the training center of special forces in Amman.
