Trans-Caucasus needs bilateral agreements to rule out use of force

Participants of the Geneva talks believes that stability and security in the Trans-Caucasus Region need agreements ruling out use of force between Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Georgia, RIA Novosti reports.

Abkhaz, Georgian, Russian, US, South Ossetian, UN, OSCE and EU officials attended consultations on October 10-11 to discuss the problem. Russia was represented by State Secretary and Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.

Russia emphasized its devotion to build peace and stability in Trans-Caucasus. The deputy foreign minister noted that Tbilisi was making up threats provoked by the Kavkaz-2012 military drills.

The working group for humanitarian affairs discussed socio-economic and ecological problems of Abkhazia, Georgia and South Ossetia. Georgia initiated passing of the resolution on refugees and forced migrants of Abkhazia and South Ossetia at the UN General Assembly in New York this summer.

The next round of talks was set for December 2012.
