"United National Movement" gets new Secretary General

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has appointed former Prime
Minister Vano (Iwane) Merabishvili as the new Secretary General of the
"United National Movement" party.

The candidacy of Merabishvili was approved by a majority vote at
today's congress of the former ruling party of Georgia, News-Georgia
reports.

"My main plan is to create a new, modern party, just as back then, in
2003, the" United National Movement" was creating a new state,"
Merabishvili said at a briefing.
