Georgian teachers demand lessons of Russian language at schools

The Zugdidi Municipality in the western part of Georgia saw protests of local teachers demanding the Russian language to be taught at middle schools, Vzglyad reports.

Inneza Jurgadia said that President Mikheil Saakashvili had ordered reduction of lessons of the Russian language earlier. Teachers demand to meet Georgy Margvelashvili, a candidate for Minister for Education and Science of the Georgian Dream coalition.

The national exams in late March 2012 were dominated by the English language. 17% of students had exams in Russian, 7% in German, 3% in French. Over 90% of Georgians speak Russian, according to social polls.
