Iran passes amendments to law on presidential elections

The Iran parliament has passed amendments to the law on presidential elections. A president needs to be aged 45-75, needs a master’s degree or higher of an Islamic education center.
Head of the Council of Parliament Hamid Hojasti said that discussions of the amendments took about 100 hours. They concern articles 31, 33 and 35 of the Constitution.
According to article 33, the Central Executive Council for Elections will be under control of 30 religious and political figures organizing the elections. The council will be formed 3 months ahead of the elections.
Iran will have presidential polls on June 14, 2013, to elect the 7 president who will replace Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
25 experts will check candidates for their devotion to Islam. 100 MPs will approve candidates.
