Inhabitants of Gori demand restoration of the monument of Joseph Stalin. A petition and a monument project will be presented on October 29, Georgia Online reports.
Spokesman of the initiators Shalva Tlashadze said that signatures will be collected by the end of the week. About 1200 signatures will be given.
The old monument has not been sold yet. A private collector offered $17000 for the sculpture.
The Monument of Stalin in Gori, where the Soviet leader had been born, was taken down by the city’s executives. It was moved to the Museum of Stalin. The government planned to build a memorial in the honour of victims of the Georgian-Russian war of August 2008 and repressions of Stalin.
