Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Daily Telegraph that Iran quit efforts to build nuclear weapons. Tehran processed over a third of 20%-enriched uranium (about 72 kg) into fuel for the research reactor, delaying the critical moment by 8-10 months.
Barak believes that Israel and its allies will postpone the military strike on Iran to 2013, unless the problem is settled via diplomacy.
The minister said that intensive discussions of an Israeli and US military strike prevented Iran from building nuclear weapons. He noted that Iran may also be attempting a diplomatic maneuver before the US presidential polls or it may be trying to fulfill obligations for the IAEA.
