Georgian PM to appoint special representative for Russian affairs

Georgian Minister for Reintegration Paata Zakareishvili said today that former Ambassador to Russia Zurab Abashidze will become the personal representative of Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili for Russian affairs, Georgia Online reports.

The minister sees no controversies preventing the start of a new dialogue and cooperation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

He reminded about successful negotiations of Georgia and Russia to open the Kazbegi – Verkhny Lars checkpoint and Russia’s joining the WTO.

Zakareishvili says that Georgian strive to join NATO should not become a problem in relations with Russia. he mentioned that Poland, Bulgaria and Romania did not ruin ties with Russia when joining NATO.
