The event is linked to the 9-th anniversary of the signing of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea, which is celebrated on November 4. Tehran Convention is to date the only document regulating the general obligations of the Caspian countries to protect the environment. According to the experts, the Caspian Sea suffers from offshore oil production, nuclear, industrial and household waste, moreover the sea is poisoned by heavy metals.
