Conquerors of Everest gather in Moscow
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaA "Congress of Climbers" took place today in Moscow. The organizer
of the event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the first Soviet and
the 20th anniversary of the first Russian ascent to the "roof of the
world", Mount Everest, was the Mountaineering Federation of Russia.
At the Congress there were performances by representatives and leaders of
expeditions to Mount Everest, and the congress participants again recalled
the historic moment presented in the videos of climbing a mountain.
All in all, more than sixty climbers who have reached the highest peak
of the planet were invited to the event. Legends of
mountaineering from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Latvia,
Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan
gathered in Moscow. The guest of honor was the new president of the
Union for International Mountaineering and Climbing (UIAA). In an
interview with VK he expressed his admiration for the Moscow congress.
The leader of a Russian expedition team to Mt. Everest, Viktor Kozlov, said
in an interview to VK that all the most unique routes on Mt.
Everest were discovered by natives of the former USSR and the CIS
countries. He added that the exploration of three of the 16 existing
routes belong to the people of the Soviet generation.
The president of the National Federation of Mountaineering, Israfil
Ashurly, who recently became president of the Youth Commission of the
UIAA, expressed his confidence that in the near future the list of
young climbers of Everest will be expanded.
