Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan joint ECOSOC

Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan have joined the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for three years today by the UN General Assembly. Albania, Croatia, the Netherlands, Canada, San Marino, United States, Bolivia, Colombia, Haiti, Benin, Mauritius, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Nepal and Kuwait will attend ECOSOC sessions in 2013-2015.

ECOSOC coordinates economic, social and other activities of 14 specialized agencies, 10 functional commissions and five regional commissions. It is also a forum for discussions of economic and social problems.

54 countries take part in ECOSOC sessions. A third of the council is re-elected annually.
