The Social Democratic Party of Sweden is suing the country’s prime minister over his apology for the adoption of a resolution by parliament calling the 1915 killings of Armenians by Turks “genocide.”

Fredrik Reinfeldt expressed his regret during a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Hurriyet said.

"Reinfeldt’s ignoring of the decision of parliament during the talks with Erdogan, as well as the fact that he begged Erdogan’s pardon for this decision is contrary to Swedish law," MP Erik Osterberg Osterberg said, adding that his apology implied that the premier was opposed to the people’s decision.

The case will be heard in the Supreme Court of Sweden.
