Russia receives status of world leader in sports

Olympic portal Sportcal has placed Russia in the top three most
influential sports powers for 2012 and gave it a status of a world
sports leader for the next five years. One of the main reasons for
this decision was the organization of a set of major international
sporting events, mainly the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 2014
in Sochi.

In the past five years China has been the sports world leader followed
by the United Kingdom and Russia.

In addition to the Olympics, in 2013 Russia will host the World
Athletics Championships and the World Summer Universiade, in 2015 -
the world water sports championships, and in 2018 - the FIFA World Cup.
