Russia admits there has been abuse of its financial aid to the Georgian break-away republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. A corresponding statement was made by Russian Presidential aide and former minister of public healthcare Tatyana Golikova.

She said that under previous administrations the authorities of the semi-recognized republics abused Russian financial support and expressed hope that under the current government nothing of the kind will take place.

Russia's policy towards Abkhazia and South Ossetia, especially continuing financial support, has raised vehement criticism from several Russian opposition figures and civil activists.
