Japan and Malaysia are going to open embassies of Turkmenistan on their
territories in 2013 and are currently working on related issues. These
events are seen as part of the plan of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov
to strength the country's presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Earlier, Tokyo said that the high technologies of Japan and rich natural
resources of Turkmenistan complement each other. The Japanese Bank of
International Cooperation (JBIC) has been investing in the
modernization of TEC in Turkmenistan.

Malaysia is interested in the Turkmen market, primarily due to the
activities of the state oil and gas company Petronas Charigali, which has been operating
in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea since 1996.
