The Iranian Minister for Oil Massud Mirkazemi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Shmatko today signed a joint statement, providing for close cooperation in the oil, gas and petrochemistry energy spheres, RIA Novosti reports.

The joint statement acknowledges a "road map" drawn up by the joint Russo-Iranian working group. The sides have also decided to work out the possibility of establishing a joint bank, which would provide financing for projects in the energy sphere.
The sides also touched upon the issue of purchasing crude oil via exchange houses and inspire other oil suppliers to participate.

The Russian minister also pointed out that sanctions against Iran will not affect Russo-Iranian economic cooperation.
