Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev ordered the government to prepare for switching to Latin alphabet before 2025 at a meeting dedicated to the 21st anniversary of Kazakh Independence, RIA Novosti reports.
The Kazakh language is based on the Cyrillic alphabet. It used to be runic, then Arabic and then Latin. The Latin alphabet was used in 1929-1940, but was proven inefficient.
