Turkish Jews may face persecution

The Jewish community in Turkey expresses concerns about statements made by a spokesman of IHH (the organization responsible for the Mavi Marmara ferry of the Free Gaza Flotilla formed in 2010) Hussein Orudzh. The official said that there had been five Jews of Turkish citizenship who had lived in Turkey before joining the Israeli military.
Leaders of the Jewish community fear that the information may provoke anti-Semitic response from the Turkish authorities, including arrests or even pogroms.
The Turkish military say that the information is false and there were no soldiers with Turkish citizenship.
