The Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) will buy a seismic vessel to

explore for oil and gas. The corporation already has proposals and is

now selecting the best option. In any case, the ship will cost Turkey

$100-150 million.

The Directorate-General for mineral exploration at the Ministry of Energy

and Natural Resources of Turkey also intends to acquire a seismic

vessel for mineral exploration.

Turkey is actively looking for oil on its territory to reduce

dependence on foreign supplies, although recent research in the area

of Sinop led to nothing.

After Nicosia (Cyprus) started development of the shelf off the

coast of the island, divided into Greek and Turkish parts,  Turkey,

together with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, began exploring

oil and gas in the special economic zone of Northern Cyprus.
