New governor of Armenia's Ararat region appointed

The government of Armenia has replaced Vardkes Ovakimyan with the first deputy minister of emergencies, head of the rescue service of Armenia, Edik Barsegyan, as the new governor of Ararat region, News Armenia reports.


According to Armenian Premier Tigrna Sarkisyan, Ovakimyan earlier handed in his resignation.


Bargesyan said that he will use his experience as the head of administration of Siunik region in 2000-2004. He plans to visit all the communities in the Ararat region in the next six weeks.


He said that he is not a member of any party at the moment but he plans to join the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, the ideology of which he shares and supports.
