On July 15, a special sitting of the youth subcommittee of the Republic of Armenia's Public Council (PC)?discussed suggestions by the Chairman of the PC, Vazgen Manukyan, which he addressed to members of the Council in an open letter.

Specifically, the youth subcommittee touched on the most topical issues: the army and education. It approved Sargsyan's suggestion on compulsory military service for young people who had attained the age of eighteen (except for young people with health problems), provided that the term of military service is cut to one-and-a-half years.

"The Armenian army will only become stronger with each reform in the field," said chairperson of the subcommittee of the Public Council, Hripsime Margaryan.
