Political and journalistic circles of Israel have praised the recent statements by a deputy of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, chairman of the party "United National Front" Gudrat Hasanguliyev, from which it follows that Azerbaijani policy attributes the responsibility for the deaths of civilians in Gaza during operation "Pillar of Defense" to the terrorist organization Hamas.
"Although we feel grief over the murder of our civilian Muslim brothers, we must recognize that Israel is right. I am not referring to the Palestinian people, the main problem is Hamas. Everybody knows that Hamas and Hezbollah take into account the interests of Iran and not Arabs. Relations with Israel worsened due to the provocations of Iran. When the Egyptian and Turkish leaders support these organizations, they say: "Hamas and Hezbollah, you are right! Israel is the killer of children." Moreover, they believe that their mission is now complete. Fearing Israel, they do not help Palestine. To save the Palestinian people from Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel and the international community should support the formation of a normal government. Today the Palestinian governments are very dangerous to their own people. They protect not the people's interests but the interests of the funding from Iran. I think that Azerbaijan should expand cooperation with Israel, purchase advanced weapons from Israel and improve military cooperation. We must stand on the side of the Arabs, our Muslim brothers and sisters, and not of Hamas." These words by Hasanguliyev have not gone unnoticed by a number of Israeli electronic media.
According to one of the senior members of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, these statements prove once again not only the commitment of the broadest political circles of Azerbaijan to develop relations with Israel, but also the location of the "front line." And it is not between "Judeo-Christian" and "Islamic" civilizations, as some islamophobes try to present in the West, but between Islam as a unique part of human civilization in general, and politicized, fundamentalist Islam, represented by Iran and its allies. In this sense, Hasanguliyev’s words have a lot in common with the recent statement by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In any case, Israel is grateful to Azerbaijan for the balanced and friendly position it has held in the international arena with regard to Israel.
If Mr. Hasanguliyev, the official added, could be in Israel during the days of the operation "Pillar of Defense", his position would be even more precise and objective, but in general, the Azerbaijani politician certainly caught the main thing in the situation in the Middle East.
It should be noted that Gudrat Hasanguliyev drew the attention of the Israeli media for the first time a few months ago when they widely cited his proposal to rename Azerbaijan the "Republic of Northern Azerbaijan." This move caused a new surge of interest in Azerbaijan and its political problems on the part of the Israelis.
