Algerian intelligence service fails to save all hostages

The Algerian intelligence service managed to free 14 hostages on
Wednesday night, including four European citizens. The identity of the
hostages has not yet been revealed.

It was reported previously that 15 foreigners who were kidnapped by a
militant group belonging to "Al-Qaeda" managed to escape from their
kidnappers. Among them were 4 Frenchman. It was also reported that 30
Algerians have managed to escape from the oil field.

The hostages were kidnapped in an attack on the residential complex of
oil workers at the gas field in south-eastern Algeria. Between 20 to
40 foreign nationals (US, France, UK, Norway, Japan, the
Philippines, Malaysia) and 150 Algerians have been captured. Some of
them might have been killed or injured.
