Commission for rehabilitation of Armenian churches of Georgia meets in Tbilisi

The first working session of the Georgian-Armenian commission for the preservation and rehabilitation of five Armenian churches in Georgia was held today in Tbilisi. The commission includes representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the Georgian Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, NGOs and experts.

 

Members of the commission will examine the five temples claimed by the Georgian and Armenian churches. This is the church of St. Nikoloz (Surb Nushan), St George (St. Gevorg), Norasheni, Surb Minas and Carmine Avetaran. According to one of the members, the chairman of the organization "21st Century" Paata Gachechiladze, "it is not about the affiliation of churches, it is about saving them."

 

The decision on the establishment of the Georgian-Armenian commission was taken during the visit of Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili in Yerevan.
