Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili says the country's parliament has freed an enemy of Georgian statehood, as the president called Vaagn Chakhalyan, who is believed to be a Russian agent.

"This was an act of treason. The parliament freed a Russian spy, who was trying to overthrow the Georgian state and threatened its integrity," the president said.
