Cossack Vodolatsky resigns as chieftain

Victor Vodolatsky, Chieftain of the Great Cossack Forces of Don, has resigned as the Cossack ataman (chieftain), RIA Novosti reports.
The terms of chieftainship have recently been extended from 3 to 5 years. Volodatsky’s 3-year term ends today, but he decided not to continue commanding the Cossacks for 2 years he was granted by the amendments.
The new chieftain will be elected in three months, on May 18.
