Armenian candidate for president keeps election date unchanged for democracy

Paruyr Ayrikyan, leader of the Union for National Self-Determination and candidate for president shot in a shoulder at Yerevan center on January 31, said that he had chosen not to postpone the elections to save democracy, News Armenia reports.

8 candidates are running for president: President Serzh Sargsyan, former PM and leader of the Freedom Party Grant Bagratyan, former Foreign Minister and leader of the Heritage Party Raffi Ovannisyan, leader of the National Self-Determination Union Paruyr Ayrikyan, former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Arman Melikyan, a political analyst of Radio Hay Andreas Gukasyan, a researcher of epos VardanSedrakyan and leader of the National Consent Party Aram Arutyunyan. Campaigning started on January 21, voting will take place on February 18.
