US’ NATO representative satisfied with Georgian military reforms

James Appathurai, NATO Secretary Genera’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central, met Georgian Defense Minister Irakly Alasania in Brussels, News Georgia reports.

The US official expressed satisfaction with reforms at the Georgian Defense Ministry.

The sides discussed further cooperation of Georgia and the NATO, Georgia’s bid for joining the alliance, participation in ISAF operations.

The NATO ministerial planned for February 21-22 will have discussions of Georgian cooperation within the framework of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

Georgia has a company of 175 soldiers serving as part of the ISAF under French supervision in Kabul and a battalion of about 750 soldiers in the Helmand Province under US supervision.
