Rostislav Antonov, a local from Novosibirsk, filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office about investigation of how French actor Gerard Depardieu had gotten the apartment in Grozny.
Antonov said that, according to article 49 of the Russian Housing Code, apartments are provided with a social rent contract for the poor, as stated in article 51 of the code. The poor receive apartments according to queues. Depardieu does not fit in the category of the poor.
Chechen authorities insist that the apartment was provided via non-budget funds and was not municipal property, press secretary of the Chechen leader Alvi Karimov said.
Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov granted Depardieu a five-room apartment at the Grozny-City skyscraper and honorary citizenship on February 25.
