Arab League offers Syria seat to opposition

The Arab League has offered the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), an opposition umbrella group backed by the West and Arab nations, Syria's seat at the league on condition that it first forms a representative executive council, Al Jazeera reports.

Nabil Elaraby, the league's secretary-general, told a news conference on Wednesday that League ministers meeting in the Egyptian capital Cairo had taken the decision granting the SNC the league seat.

The Arab League has invited the SNC to choose a representative to attend the league meeting in Doha, Qatar, later this month.
