Turkmenistan opens consulate in Germany

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has approved opening of a consulate in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Trend reports.

Turkmenistan signed a long-term memorandum with RWE AG (Germany) in April 2009. The company has been developing projects at the Turkmen shelf of the Caspian Sea and is one of the shareholders of Nabucco.

Turkmenistan may join the Nabucco Gas Pipeline by building a branch about 300km long running to the Azerbaijani coast. Europe needs it to diversify gas supplies. Russia is currently the main supplier.
