Turkmen and Iranian presidents discuss relations in Ashkhabad

Turkmen and Iranian Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have discussed diplomatic relations and further cooperation.

Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of ties with Iran and called them strategic.

The two states have joint gas pipelines Turkmenistan uses to transport gas to Iran. The presidents discussed construction of the North-South Railway to improve freighting from Europe to the Gulf. They also talked about regional and international affairs of common interest.
