SOCAR obtains licence for building oil refinery in Turkey

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), via joint enterprise SOCAR-Turcas, yesterday obtained a licence for building an oil refinery near the city of Izmir from Turkish energy market regulator EPDK, vesti.az reports.

As the SOCAR report states, the chief executive of SOCAR-Turcas, Kenan Javus, said that this new oil refinery would create 1000 additional workplaces and process 10 million tons of oil a year.

The head of EPDK, Hasan Koktas, mentioned that this new enterprise first filed an application for the licence in December 2008. The Energy Minister of Turkey and the head of SOCAR were present at the licence presentation ceremony.
